Southern California Highlights

We landed safely in Los Angeles after traveling for 23 hours.  So I apologise for the pics in advance.  Not our best look, but I'm aiming for honesty here...  We didn't have any dramas with the flights, or at the airports which is always a good thing.

After landing at LAX, we caught a shuttle bus to Union Station, and caught the Train down to Oceanside where we were to meet Orlando.  While waiting, we found a diner and enjoyed a great breakfast.  We were told that to get accustomed to the new timezome quicker, we had to stay up until it was bed time in the new timezone, but after traveling for 23 hours, and arriving at 4.45am it was a big ask, so needless to say once we got to Orlando & Jo's home, we fell straight to sleep.

We enjoyed going out witnessing with the Hidden Valley congregation on Saturday morning, followed by In & Out Burger for lunch (a California icon), then sightseeing around San Diego (Balboa Park, Downtown & Sea Port Village) and dinner at Old Town.  Sunday we attended the meeting and then enjoyed some association afterward with some brothers & sisters from the congregation.  Everyone brought their favourite dish for us to sample including turkey, corn bread, sweet potato & marshmallow salad as well as Orlando's Wings & Ribs which were awesome!

Monday we decided to hit Disneyland, so caught the train up to Anaheim and a shuttle to the park.  We had so much fun!!  Big kids that we are.  We went on the rides in both Disneyland and California Adventure, Kiri went on the roller coaster by herself, there was no way Jonno & I were going on it with her.  We stayed until about 9pm to get the most out of the parks.  It was such a fun day and we wish all of our nieces & nephews could enjoy it with us!

The rest of the time was spent doing a little shopping, catching up on a little work and getting ourselves ready for our New York adventure.

Hope you are all doing ok, and would love to hear news from home.

Hast Luego Shepparton!

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

I know it's been a while since I posted, close to 6 months in fact.  Everyday life got in the way, and of course the Blog fell by the wayside, as I guessed it would.  But, I'm back on the blogging wagon.

We settled into life quite easily in Shepparton and established a good routine both spiritually and work-wise.  We helped make Salami with the Sortino's; had the Singleton's visit us for 2 weeks in June and had an absolute ball; house-sat for the Nania family for 6 weeks while they were on holidays in Europe; and then the months just flew by in a blur.  I've attached some pics of our last dinner with friends & going away BBQ.

We have now started on our journey to Mexico!  Finally!!!  It's been 2 1/2 years in the making, but hey, better late than never.  We left Shepparton on Friday night after a whirlwind of BBQ's, dinners and awesome company.  Jonno's family put on a fun afternoon farewell BBQ on Sunday complete with costumes, games and a cactus cake!

We renewed friendships, and made some really great new friends and are going to miss everyone in good ol' Shepp.  Thanks for all the support in service, the encouragement and great times!
